Wenquan County belongs to Bortala Autonomous Prefecture, Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, and is located in the northwest of the autonomous region, the upper reaches of Bortala River valley, the northern foot of the western tianshan Mountain, and the western margin of the Junggar Basin. It is adjacent to Bole city in the east, Bezhentao Mountain in the south and Huocheng County in the south, and in the west and north, it is adjacent to Kazakhstan with the boundary of Kongguoro Ebo Mountain and the western section of Aratao Mountain. The county is 139.4 kilometers long from east to west and 64.8 kilometers wide from north to south.
